Meet the Boarding Staff of Hampshire Collegiate School
We are Mr McCredie & Miss Hopwood, Joint Head of Boarding
and Houseparents, and we recently joined HCS in September 2017. We fell in love
with the beautiful Manor House and its expansive grounds, believing this to be the
ideal location for children of all ages to grow and flourish; it is rural,
peaceful and safe, yet also within 10 minutes drive of bustling Southampton and
other wonderful nearby towns and cities such as Winchester, Salisbury and
Our aim is to provide a supportive, safe and fun environment
which Boarders can truly call their second home. We make certain that we have a
well- balanced co-ed house, with a variety of nationalities and ages, who all
respect and look after one another. We also have a fantastic, diverse boarding team
assisting us and the boarders in house; including teachers, matrons and GAP
The varied activities and trips provided each week ensure that boarders
make the most of new opportunities, share and hone their existing hobbies and
skills, whilst making memories that last a lifetime.
Speaking of which, Mr McCredie’s passion for boarding began
from the age of 12 when he was a boarder himself at Durham School until the age
of 18. Inspired by the care and support he received from his Housemaster at
Durham, he strives to emulate the fun and laughter he experienced as a boarder,
whilst also ensuring that clear and consistent boundaries are set for all.
Miss Hopwood met Mr McCredie when she was an English/EAL
teacher and he was a member of the boarding team at the International Boarding
School they worked at; Miss Hopwood joined the boarding team on trips and
special events and found that she loved spending time with students outside the
classroom too, as you glean so much more about them as people; their interests,
hobbies, skills, extra-curricular strengths, often seeing another side to them.
She is an avid believer in the importance of strong pastoral care and ensuring
Miss Hopwood went on to gain further boarding experience at
The Dragon School, Oxford and then re-joined Mr McCredie’s team to work together
as Head and Deputy Head of Boarding.
We are now extremely excited about our joint role at HCS and
are looking forward to developing the boarding house and programme further.
school, Mr McCredie coaches Games with specialisms in Rugby and Cricket, whilst
Miss Hopwood is Head of PSHE and teaches all PSHE from Years 7 – 11.
Outside of school, Mr McCredie loves watching and playing sport
of any kind and Miss Hopwood enjoys baking and theatre; together we also enjoy
going for walks, bike rides and exploring new places in and outside the UK.
And in case you hadn’t already guessed, we’ll let you into a little secret, we’re
also engaged to be married in August 2018!
