A Melodic Ornamentation!
The Flute Choir from Hampshire Collegiate School performed at the Southampton Music Festival recently and was commended by the adjudicator on the performance. This was the first time that an instrumental group from the school has taken part in the festival. The seven players, all pupils of Mrs Jenna Gover, the school’s flute teacher, performed a Gigue by the French Baroque composer Boismortier.
Commenting on the group’s performance the adjudicator, Mrs Gill Johnston, praised the balance of the ensemble and the precision of the melodic ornamentation. She also congratulated the young performers on the standard of their dress and stage presentation, reminding the audience of the importance of these aspects of musical performance.
