Careers in business, marketing and enterprise in the spotlight...

The first of our new series of careers evenings with industry took place on Wednesday evening with an event focused on business, marketing and enterprise. Students had the opportunity to interact with a range of successful business people and hear, first-hand, about their career paths.

We welcomed Paul Bolwell, investor and former director of buying and merchandising at the sports brand as our guest speaker for the evening. We were grateful to a whole range of professionals who gave up their time. Professionals from Hotel TerraVina,, Medina Food Service, aap3, Southampton Football Club, Performics UK, B&Q, Hamwic Wealth Management, Kingfisher IT, Barclays, Michael Page Recruitment and Carnival UK provided plenty of food for thought for students.

Attended by Year 9, 11 and Sixth Form pupils, this represented an exciting step towards preparing for the future in a year where they be making GCSE options choices, decisions about what A Levels to take and what and where to study at university. These careers discussions will be followed up in PSHE and enrichment lessons.Pupils had an opportunity to ask pertinent questions about interview technique, soft skills, CV writing and David Driver, Financial Controller form Southampton Football Club was asked if he would sell Virgil Van Dyke to Manchester United!

We look forward to our two forthcoming careers events in the spring and summer terms. In February we will present our arts, media and humanities evening and the focus of our event in April will be STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). More information on this will follow.
