HCS is renowned for its development in rugby, which is the major boys' sport in the Autumn term. The school is particularly proud of the number of boys that participate in the sport.

Numerous players have earned representative honours, both at schoolboy and first class level.  On Saturday afternoons we can boast a varied and competitive fixture list against local and national opposition. HCS are also extremely fortunate to have a strong partnership with London Irish Rugby Club, who deliver high quality rugby coaching and education to pupils at the school.

In addition, HCS pupils benefit from outstanding coaching from our highly qualified coaches. There is also plenty of opportunity to develop skills during weekly games lessons, squad practice and development sessions. Each year group will also have an opportunity to experience a rugby tour, from local weekend trips to long haul excursions. We also run an exchange programme with Marist School, Canberra, Australia. giving pupils the opportunity to spend three months with a host family, attend Marist School and play an exciting style of fast paced rugby. This hosting is reciprocated, with an HCS pupil hosting their exchange student for the HCS rugby season. It is a rare experience and one that has proved extremely beneficial to aspirational rugby players.

The school also plays host to the Hampshire County U14 and U16 trials and is frequently used as a base for their training and some of their home matches throughout the season. The county team and London Irish also use the school as a summer-camp base.
