Sunflower Art Unveiled on HCS Lawns

Pupils at Hampshire Collegiate School have unveiled an exciting new art project celebrating learning in the school’s extensive outdoor classroom.
The beautiful sunflower artwork, which is situated on the grass outside the Prep School building, was created and recently unveiled by pupils in 5B and 5S (under the guidance of teachers Mrs Walker and Mrs Rogers).
The template for the flower only took two and half hours to create by marking out the sunflower shape and covering the individual petal outlines with black polythene. These were then pegged to the ground to stop the light from reaching the grass below. Four weeks later, the polythene was removed to reveal the classic sunflower shape for everyone to enjoy.
This activity incorporated a number of curriculum areas including maths, science and art reinforcing the idea that learning can be both fun and creative! Keep watching the lawns of HCS for more creations from the Prep School pupils.
