Victorian Picnic at Hampshire Collegiate School

230 Prep School pupils from Hampshire Collegiate School were joined by 250 children from Wellow Primary School for a Victorian picnic in the school grounds of Embley Park, as part of the celebrations which mark the centenary of the death of Florence Nightingale.

All the children and their teachers dressed in Victorian clothes and enjoyed a variety of Victorian games such as hoop and sticks, maypole dancing, croquet and flower pressing.

After a fabulous authentic picnic lunch provided by Hampshire Collegiate School (including sandwiches, Victoria Sandwich cake, blancmange and jelly) children enjoyed touring the West Wing of the house which was once the family home of Florence Nightingale. The Nightingale Family annually invited children from the Parish of Wellow for a picnic in the grounds which was the inspiration for the picnic today.
