A group of Year 6 children from Hampshire Collegiate Prep School achieved first place in a national film competition aimed at promoting positive use of the Internet amongst young people.
The 2010 film challenge, organised by the Internet Safety charity Childnet, was to create a 60 second film that showed why they love the Internet and how they stay safe online. Six children wrote, acted and recorded their film titled ‘Who are you talking to?’ as part of their post-SATS program mentored by Head of Drama Miss Sophie Ashton and Head of ICT Mr. Phil Shuttleworth. Their film, an adaptation of the classic children’s tale Little Red Riding Hood, was judged the overall winner in the primary category at a final screening event at the Greenwich Picture House in London. The children viewed their entry on the cinema screen along with the other two finalists and received an award from industry experts including representatives from the British Board of film classification, MOFILM and Vodafone. They also received recording equipment and animation software for the school to provide more opportunities for children to create their own video and audio material.
