Year 10, 11 and 12 pupils at Hampshire Collegiate School enjoyed a fascinating talk from local textile artist Hilary Castle, this week. Hilary demonstrated a range of her mixed media technique which included embellishing, burning, and freestyle stitching that enable her to create interesting textiles from scraps of material. Hilary also showed the students how she had used the fabrics to create pictures, greeting cards, covered notebooks and handbags. Textiles teacher Mrs Di Birch said: “We were thrilled to see Hilary’s demonstration, which will undoubtedly be an inspiration to the pupils as they embark upon their GCSE and A level coursework.” Hilary’s work can be seen at the Crossfield Hall in Romsey on 23 October where she will be giving demonstrations and selling a range of her artwork.
