As part of National Poetry week, a number of classes enjoyed the experience of ‘learning outside the classroom’ and produced some highly impressive poems as a result of their walks!
An excitable Year 8 class enjoyed writing and drawing images of their poems relating to the theme of ‘home’ in the atmospheric surroundings of the library, in the West Wing, ‘Home’ to many HCS pupils!
Year 11 took in the beautiful gardens and used the backdrop of the boarding house to consider what the theme of ‘home’ meant to them.
My home is my comfort,
It’s a place where I can store, cover and keep,
I can be myself and do what I like,
I can sing with a hairbrush as if it’s a mike
A home could be a mental state of mind,
At school, a house or in the wild
Mine is a place to rest, relax and reconcile
A place of independence, isolation and concentration.
I live at home through happy times and strife
This is a thing called life
This is a place I have always known
Wherever I am,
I am home.
