Training Goldfish to Play Football

Pupils from Hampshire Collegiate School (HCS) near Romsey, Hampshire, have embarked on an ambitious project to teach goldfish to play football, to slalom and limbo.

HCS has entered the annual Science Challenge held by United Church Schools Trust (UCST) and United Learning Trust (ULT) which is taking place at Swindon Academy on 15 March, 2011.  Between now and then, a group of Year 8 pupils have got to train a goldfish to perform tricks! The fish must demonstrate that they can slalom, limbo & play football.

Head of Science, Mrs Lisa Miller said: “The challenge is part of a serious scientific study, where pupils will observe behavioural patterns of the fish and train them with a feeding wand to do various underwater tricks. The pupils will have to present the science behind the challenge to a panel of judges and they will also have the opportunity to tackle more demanding tasks on the day.”

United Learning comprises: UCST (Registered in England No: 2780748. Charity No. 1016538) and ULT (Registered in England No. 4439859. An Exempt Charity) Companies limited by guarantee.
