HCS In New York

HCS pupils and staff took Broadway and the Big Apple by storm over half term during their Performing Arts trip to New York.  The group enthusiastically joined in workshops on improvisation, stage combat, and dance, led by Broadway stars such as dancer and actor Grant Turner, who taught the group the final dance sequence to his current show, Billy Elliot.  Based in the Times Square area of Manhattan, the group made excursions to Rockefeller Center, Central Park, the Empire State Building, and the Staten Island Ferry.  Being in New York on Presidents’ Day didn’t deter the group from shopping at Macy’s and Abercrombie and Fitch, and everyone filled up on huge pastrami sandwiches from Carnegie Deli and cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery. Year 11 pupil Tory Stewart-Wooler said “It was even better than the last trip to New York!”  The itinerary was packed with things to see and do, including a three hour coach tour of movie and TV locations such as the fire department from Ghostbusters, the offices of Runway Magazine from The Devil Wears Prada and the Friends apartment building.  Everyone returned to the UK exhausted on Friday morning but buzzing with memories of a remarkable trip.
