Children?s Author Visits Hampshire Collegiate School

Children’s author Jean Ure visited Hampshire Collegiate School (HCS) on Tuesday 3 March, to talk to year 8 pupils about her experience of writing children’s fiction. After a fascinating talk, Jean spent time answering questions from the audience of over 70 pupils aged 12 and 13. Jean finished the session with a book signing of some of her newest titles.

HCS pupil Henry Rowden, aged 12, thoroughly enjoyed Jean’s talk. “I thought Jean’s ideas for writing were really useful. Her books sound really good to read.”

Pupil Miranda Brown, 12, said: “It was good; I’ve already read some of her books and it has inspired me to write one of my own.”

Jean Ure said: “It is really good for me to get out and meet my readers because I quickly learn what interests them and what doesn’t. It is also useful for the children to realise that authors are humans too! ”
The visit was organised to coincide with World Book Day which takes place this week (on Thursday March 5).
Jeans first book ‘Dance for Two’ was published when she was 16, and still at school. She has now lost count of the number of books she has had published, estimating it to be as many as a hundred. More details can be found by visiting Jean’s website: www.jeanure.com
