Boarding at HCS is, as far as possible, modelled upon being “a home away from home". We believe it is the personal touches that make all the difference.

Accommodation
You will find newly refurbished rooms which are comfortable and warm. Many of these have superb views across the 120 acre country estate. Boarders’ accommodation is located throughout the west wing of the house, which was the childhood home of Florence Nightingale.

The Nightingale Room is the boarders’ living room which is tastefully furnished and full of period charm as well offering modern comforts of wide screen TV, DVD player and games consoles.

Along the corridor is a new breakfast room/kitchen facility where pupils can prepare snacks and drinks in the evenings and at weekends. There is an adjacent snooker table and television creating a popular space for them to socialise and relax.

SKYPE connection allows pupils to contact their parents - and our boarders' computer facility allows web access for educational purposes.

Weekend Sports and After-School Activities
There are up to 12 trips each year that combine culture, heritage and cuisine, as well as weekly outings to the cinema and shopping. We believe that active weekends reduce any feelings of homesickness.

Saturdays provide an opportunity for competitive sports against other schools. These include rugby, hockey, cricket, and netball. Coupled with over 70 co-curricular clubs and activities rotating through the year, you can experience many activities you may always have wanted to try including falconry, horse riding, archery, golf and sailing.

Facilities such as the art studios and music rooms are also open at weekends - so for budding artists and musicians, boarding provides additional access for pupils to develop their creative and performance skills.
