Art

  • Many Art trips are undertaken each year:
    • Year 3 visit Marwell zoo, where they take part in a workshop on Camouflage and observe animals first hand.
    • Year 4 visit exhibitions at Southampton Art Gallery. They participate in a ‘Wire workshop’ and have a tour of the gallery, studying three paintings in detail.
    • Year 6 visit ‘The Living Rainforest’ in Newbury, where they draw tropical plants from first hand experience.
  • Every year, HCS Junior School holds an ‘Art Exhibition’ in which a piece of art work from every child in the school, from Nursery to Year 6, is displayed in the hall.
  • Book illustrators visit to talk to the children about their work, bringing examples to show.
    • The author and illustrator Simon Murray of the ‘Icky Doo Dah’ series of books showed the children how to draw book characters based on his illustrations.
  • There are opportunities for children to participate in extra Art Clubs after school, this includes a pottery club.
  • The school grounds provide an ideal opportunity for children to go outside and draw from first hand experience and many art lessons from Nursery to Year 6 take place in the outdoor environment.
