Year 3 visit Marwell zoo, where they take part in a workshop on Camouflage and observe animals first hand.
Year 4 visit exhibitions at Southampton Art Gallery. They participate in a ‘Wire workshop’ and have a tour of the gallery, studying three paintings in detail.
Year 6 visit ‘The Living Rainforest’ in Newbury, where they draw tropical plants from first hand experience.
Every year, HCS Junior School holds an ‘Art Exhibition’ in which a piece of art work from every child in the school, from Nursery to Year 6, is displayed in the hall.
Book illustrators visit to talk to the children about their work, bringing examples to show.
The author and illustrator Simon Murray of the ‘Icky Doo Dah’ series of books showed the children how to draw book characters based on his illustrations.
There are opportunities for children to participate in extra Art Clubs after school, this includes a pottery club.
The school grounds provide an ideal opportunity for children to go outside and draw from first hand experience and many art lessons from Nursery to Year 6 take place in the outdoor environment.
