HCS found a rather interesting ‘bus’ parked in its grounds on Monday. Year 8 were treated to a visit from ‘Hampshire and Wight Trust for Maritime Archaeology’.
Pupils learnt about the amazing archaeological work carried out by the Trust, which is base at the Oceanographic Centre in Southampton. Pupils learnt about the ‘archaeology’ that can be found in the
Solent. Not just ship wrecks, but also a village called ‘Bouldner Cliff’ which was there before sea levels rose and cut off the Isle of Wight from the mainland. Pupils learnt how the research can be carried using divers, but also ROVs and sonar. The pupils were also able to handle some of the artefacts that have been
found. Amazingly, the design of the nit comb has not changed in at least 500 years!
