Art
The Art Department aims to awaken every child to their own creative potential and works with class teachers to link art projects to current topics in other subjects.
The children are introduced to a variety of mediums and techniques and finished work is proudly displayed throughout the school.

Many Art trips and topics are undertaken each year:
-
Year 3 visit Marwell zoo, where they take part in a workshop on Camouflage and observe animals first hand.
- Year 4 visit exhibitions at Southampton Art Gallery. They participate in a ‘Wire workshop' and have a tour of the gallery, studying three paintings in detail.
- Year 5 have opportunities to develop their observational drawing skills and gain a deeper understanding of pattern through a study of the work of William Morris.
- Year 6 visit ‘The Living Rainforest' in Newbury, where they draw tropical plants from first hand experience.
-
Book illustrators visit to talk to the children about their work, bringing examples to show.
- The author and illustrator Simon Murray of the ‘Icky Doo Dah' series of books showed the children how to draw book characters based on his illustrations.
- There are opportunities for children to participate in extra Art Clubs after school, this includes a pottery club.
The school grounds provide an ideal opportunity for children to go outside and draw from first hand experience and many art lessons from Nursery to Year 6 take place in the outdoor environment.
