Drama

  • Drama is an essential part of the curriculum and provides children with opportunities to develop their confidence and social skills in different ways.
  • In Early Years and Year 1 pupils have Drama incorporated in their lessons through speaking and listening and role play. From year 2 upwards lessons are a separate part of the curriculum taught in our specialist Drama room.
  • We try to integrate cross-curricular links so children apply their knowledge from English, History, Science and PSHE to their Drama lesson as this ensures children are applying knowledge to their work in a different context.
  • We have visiting companies such as The Shakespeare Company to extend this learning further.
  • LAMDA examinations are offered each year. Last year, once again, the results were excellent with a 100% pass rate, 49% of the children being awarded a Merit and 45% a Distinction.
  • Our Annual Verse Speaking Competition gives children the opportunity to share their talents with the rest of the school and in front of Senior School judges.
  • Children are encouraged to take part in a pantomime as part of an after school club. Last February ‘Cinderella Rockerfella' was performed by a cast of Year 3 to 5 children.
  • Year 6 children have the opportunity to perform in a production at the end of the school year. Past productions have included:
    •
      • 'Bugsy Malone'
      • ‘The Wizard of Oz'
      •  ‘A Midsummer Night's Dream'
      • ‘Grease'
