P.E. & Games
Teaching and Learning styles:
- At HCS we use a variety of teaching and learning styles in P.E. and Games lessons to recognise that pupils learn in a variety of ways. Methods used are paired teaching, group work and individual assessment.
- Pupils will be encouraged to work independently, in pairs and groups and to display their work as a stimulus to the group.
The Foundation Stage:
- In Nursery and Reception the physical development of pupils is linked to the objectives set out in the Early Learning Goals.
- Pupils are encouraged to develop confidence, control in movement and handling of tools and equipment.
- Pupils are given the opportunity to participate in activities that offer appropriate challenges using a variety of resources.
Years 1 - 6:
- P.E. & Games activities are planned to build upon the prior learning of the pupils, and allow opportunities to develop and challenge differentiated learning.
- We base our planning on the National Curriculum and teach dance, gymnastics and games at KS1. Swimming is also taught in KS1. In KS2 we teach dance, gymnastics and games, plus swimming and athletics. There are competitive fixtures for Years 3 - 6 and squad training for the more able.
We are proud of our sporting provision and we hold the individual at the heart of our planning.
