Formula 1 Technical Director speaks at HCS Nightingale Lecture

Last Thursday, 25 January, Hampshire Collegiate School hosted the second of its Nightingale Lecture Series for Sixth Form students. Guest of honour and keynote speaker at the event was James Allison, who is a motorsport designer and engineer and best known for his achievements over 27 years in Formula One.

James is currently the Technical Director for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport F1 team and supported Lewis Hamilton to win the 2017 Formula One Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championship in his first year with Mercedes.

Following a three-course meal, James talked to students about his experiences in Formula One and the behind the scenes success of Lewis Hamilton’s racing last season. He also spoke about the importance of learning, teamwork and the value of failing - and learning from mistakes.

The school’s Nightingale Lecture series is designed to provide its Sixth Form students with the opportunity to participate in a formal dining experience, hear from an interesting and charismatic guest speaker and learn to confidently and maturely discuss pertinent issues.
