HCS students win Round the Island Race Raymarine Young Sailor Trophy

Students from Hampshire Collegiate School (HCS) were the fastest team of young sailors in this year’s Round the Island Race at the weekend, winning the Raymarine Young Sailor Trophy. They completed the course with a finishing time of 10:42:05 and in position 111 out of over 1,200 teams in the race.

The team comprised some of the school’s most experienced sailors in Years 9, 10 and 11, who competed in one of the school’s Etchell 22.

Hampshire Collegiate School’s fleet of Etchell 22s are moored in the Solent at Lymington Harbour. Sailing is a popular co-curricular activity with children from the Prep School through to the Sixth Form enjoying the school’s Keelboat Programme.

HCS’s Head of Sailing Hattie Rogers, crew member Paige Flide and skipper Jonathan Churchill from HCS collected the 2018 Young Sailor Trophy at the Round the Island Race in association with Cloudy Bay.
