One of the most important aspects of Early Years at Hampshire Collegiate Prep School (HCPS) is our excellent pastoral care, with a focus on the children’s personal and social development.  Our aim is to instill in all our children a love of learning to enable them to become confident and independent.   Each child is seen as an individual on their own learning journey through the Foundation Stage. We work in close partnership with parents, with an ‘open-door’ policy and good communication.

The Early Years department is vibrant and happy, with lots of laughter. The curriculum is taught by dedicated staff in fun and interactive lessons. All the children benefit from our explorers’ garden in which they can climb, explore and make mud pies! We also have direct access to outdoors from each of the classrooms. The children take part in weekly Learning Outside the Classroom (LOC) lessons in the woods, whatever the weather.

A close relationship between the Nursery and Reception classes provides an easy transition through to the Reception class. This important transition is seamless for the children and parents. The children form close friendships with each other across Early Years, which continue through their school life.
