Art Scholarships will be awarded to students who demonstrate an exceptional ability in Art. Candidates should have genuine commitment, interest and motivation in the subject. Your child should be able to demonstrate skill and ability in a range of artistic areas and show how they experiment and explore their creative ideas.
Candidates wishing to apply for an Art Scholarship should return a completed application form to Hampshire Collegiate School by no later than the last Friday in November (the year before entry). Students will be required to submit a portfolio of work, produced at home or school, by no later than the first Friday in January (the year of entry). This should be clearly labelled with the student’s name.
Candidates will be selected for interview on the quality of their portfolio. Interviews will take place in January. In the portfolio, we are looking for:
- A range of work which shows a variety of skills The ability to use a range of media and techniques with control and precision (such as drawing, painting, textiles, sculpture, computer graphics and photography)
- Examples of observational drawing
- Breadth and depth of approach and an understanding of contextual studies within Art, including the ability to make an informed connection with the work of artists and craftspeople
- Sketchbooks and scrapbooks which show a thought process
Finished work in the portfolio should be mounted.
