This term we welcomed Miss Olivia Murphy as Hampshire Collegiate School’s new LAMDA teacher. Miss Murphy is a highly skilled and accomplished teacher of Drama and English. She has experience of directing youth theatre productions as well as teaching in theatre schools and LAMDA examinations.
In addition to this, Miss Murphy has a post graduate certificate in the advanced teaching of Shakespeare from Warwick University, which was achieved through a lengthy project with the world-renowned Royal Shakespeare Company, and she is a trained actor with a post graduate from the London Academy of Performing Arts. Alongside her teaching, she is currently working in commercials, theatre, short films and feature films. She has performed on stage at The Theatre Royal Bath, Egg Theatre and Ustinov Studio most recently appearing in The 24 Hour Plays at the Ustinov, Theatre Royal Bath.
Miss Murphy says that LAMDA provides students with a wide range of skills including confidence building, improved communication and listening and promotes teamwork for those working in a pair or group. LAMDA also prepares the students for real life situations like interviews and presentations which will feel less daunting in further education and future careers. The exams provide students with the ability to memorise and recall information and expands vocabulary. As well as all of this, the work is lots of fun and allows students to use their imagination.
Pupils can opt to take LAMDA lessons in Acting, Verse and Prose or Musical Theatre and can participate in solo, paired or small group tuition. If you wish to enrol a pupil in LAMDA, please contact Mrs Elaine Morgan in the first instance.
