As the smell of freshly made croissants drifted through the air at Hampshire Collegiate Prep School, we opened the doors to eager children dressed in an array of colour, representing countries and languages from around the globe.

After a French themed breakfast for Key Stage 2, the children started their daily lessons. Around the school awareness was raised of the huge number of languages. At Hampshire Collegiate Prep School we are lucky to have pupils who speak a number of second languages to English, and some of these children were eager to teach their classmates a few words.

For lunch, our amazing kitchen staff provided children with an Italian themed lunch. Lasagne was a big hit followed by a trip to the “HCS ice cream parlour”. Here, children could create their own ice cream treat with sauces, sweets and fruit toppings to choose from.

We are proud of the language provision we offer our pupils; Modern Foreign Language classes start as young as Nursery and we have specialist teachers from the Senior School leading French and Spanish lessons for Year 5 and 6.

We the day inspired our pupils to love learning languages. In the words of Federico Fellini “A different language is a different vision of life.”
