Art & Design: Art, Craft & Design A Level
This course provides a fantastic opportunity to build a varied range of techniques through drawing and painting (fine art), photography, textile design and three dimensional design.
Our large, airy and open plan art studio and expert teaching team will help you develop into an emerging artist and designer. Similar to facilities offered at some of the top universities for art degrees, you will have a personalised ‘pod’ space for the duration of your A Level course; giving you ample space and flexibility to develop your art work. We also have a range of installation spaces where our students can experiment on a larger scale with their creative ideas.
You will have access to our specialist printmaking, ceramics and textiles facilities, and a computer suite for digital processing and CAD/CAM software. Our 3D design studios provide a fully equipped workshop including equipment for wood, metal and plastics. Led by local resident artists, you will benefit from our after-school drawing workshops to hone your core drawing technique.
During the first two terms of this course, you will participate in a series of workshops to help you explore our wide range of facilities and broaden your technical skills and visual understanding of different creative techniques. This will also help you to build an impressive portfolio of work. Our teaching staff will spend time discussing your personal ambitions and tailor the subject matter of your work towards your own interests as much as possible.
Assessment of the course is by two components: a personal investigation (60%) and externally set assignment (40%).
Examination board: AQA
Where could the course take you?
This subject can help lead to a wide range of degrees. Many of our students leave us to join degree courses at art and design universities and more recent students have gone on to study degrees such as fine art, architecture, three dimensional design and costume theatre for theatre and screen.
